Weekly Workout Recap 3/22 - 29, 2015

week two duathlon training Are you keeping up with me?  If you have, you will know that I made a semi race announcement and I also posted two challenges.  You can read about them here.  So, since I committed to these events I've got to get my butt in gear and I thought you might like to follow along.

For my duathlon training I'm using Inspiration Trainings' 8 week beginner training plan.  I decided to skip the first week for two reasons.  One, I don't have eight weeks to train.  I only have seven and two?  I've been running with my running group three days a week for two weeks, so I thought I could skip it.

Sunday
Since I was I was starting training on Monday I have hoped to get out on Sunday and get my regular walk in with Zj and the BGR Ladies at Arabia Mountain. Unfortunately, it was raining so that was not to be but I came with a plan for when Zj took her nap.

  • Hooping 1/2 Hour
    • I think Hula Hooping may not be taken as seriously as some other exercises because it is associated with childhood fun but please don't sleep on hooping. I grabbed my weighted hoop and got to it as soon as Zj was asleep.  In a half an hour I burned 325 kcals.  Pretty good for a kiddy game.   My secret is to us really fast music, using a weighted hoop, keeping my arms above my heart and moving about the room so that I am not rooted to one spot.

  • Core Circuit 20 mins
    • I've been using this core circuit for a while.  Click to enlarge.  It is pretty thorough, engaging upper and lower abdominals and not forgetting the back area.  The Russian twists get me everytime
Monday

Monday called for 20mins of run/walking which I completed with my running group.  I'm still in the run/walk stage.

Tuesday

***Rest Day*** and I needed it.  The weighted hooping and core circuit had caught up with me.  I should have stretched, but I didn't.

Wednesday

Called for 25 mins run/walk.  I went four miles run/walk.  Running more this time.

Thursday

60 min bike.  I decided to try the Stone Mountain Trail, there is a spur behind my daughter's nursery.  I figured I could drop her off and hop on the trail.  How convenient and appealing!  However the reality was the trail was littered with detours, a movie being filmed, construction and what have you. The trail runs through the city so it was a hectic. Not to mention I got a dog leaped at me with its teeth bared and barking.  A ride that didn't even cover the distance I need which should have been an hour actually took 11/2.  I was about to be bummed but I decided to just enjoy the ride. So I relaxed, took pics and called the nursery to say I was going to be late.

Friday

20 min bike.  Hubbs got called into work so I had no one to watch Zj. I decided to switch rest days with Saturday.

Saturday

I completed Friday's 20 mins bike by riding through the neighborhood for 30 mins.  Above my knees hurt, but I made it over all the hills even though I wanted and planned to walk a few of them.  One BIG hill in particular the neighbors were out cutting their grass and watching me. It took everything in me to get over that hill, but I did.  Now I can never walk over it again.  lol.

Sleep for me is choppy since having the baby so I don't get enough, but Saturday night I slept for six hours and forced myself to remain in bed within devices for another two.  Good thing I did.

Sunday

Lord Have Mercy, My first run/bike/run/day.  After two straight days of consistent blog work around the clock I had planned to do my training in the morning but mother nature had other plans.  It was 30 degrees outside when I awoke on Sunday. "No Ma'am", as Hubb's would say.  So I had to wait until after a brunch I was attending to do my workout.  Have I ever told you I am a morning person?  The brunch was excellent and I think I was there for 4 or 5 hours.  Luckily I had packed all of my clothes and gear to try and get the training done in a nearby Piedmont Park before having to pick Zj up from Aunt Gina.  I asked  Hubbs to put the bike in the back of the car since I was going to be out all day I didn't want it out on the rack of the car.  He did and I was grateful, especially since he had just gotten off his third 12 hour shift in a row. When I got in the car he had put the bike in but on top of everything else that was in the car. Helmets, tricycle, saucer, blankets, stroller?!  Hmmmm.

After the brunch I checked in with Aunt Gina to make sure Zj hadn't completely fried her.  She was close to the end, but still holding on.  She allowed me to still head to the park to complete the training.  My good friend! Go #teamGinaB!  I changed in the car, which is a NSV in and of itself! Oh No, I realized I had forgotten my sports bra.  Remember I told you I have hallux rigidus in both feet here?  Well, because of that my feet don't like shoes.  Anything more than a flip flop is an issue and now after being in shoes all day I want to run/bike/run.  This is not going to go well.

It was a beautiful day in the park with lots of people out enjoying the day.  I take off running. It took me about 15 mins to walk/run a mile.  I really could have run the whole way, but I was in my feelings.  I got back to the car and trying to get the bike untangled from everything it was in there with was dramatic. Finally, I get it out and head out for the hour long ride.  After about 10 mins my butt was hurting.  At the halfway point I had to slowly get off the bike and stretch my Maximus.  OMG!! The pain.  The thought of riding back was daunting.  At least it wasn't uphill like the first part.  I arrived back at the car after riding over a long sloping hill.  Now I understand why the run/bike/run needs so much combo practice.  After I hitched the bike to the car and tried to start running again, I felt out of sorts.  Kind of like when you twirl around and get dizzy, but dizzy is the hips.  Weird, I know.  I was only able to run for short periods before I felt I needed to stop. I got through it nevertheless and immediately headed off to get my toddler.  She had been with Auntie for almost eight hours.

I was supposed to do some much needed restorative yoga when I got home, but I needed to put the toddler to bed and then I fell asleep in the soak.

What Is Clear:
  1. I need cycle lessons, specifically for gear changing.
  2. Never, I say, never, wear your pretty bra running.  This large and heavy bust wrangled that pretty bra till it took a couple of chunks off my body. The initial sting when getting in the tub was scream worthy.
  3. Additionally, something needs to be done to create a harmonious relationship between my lady parts and that bike seat or I'm not going to make.
Overall, I'm pleased with my efforts and determination to get it in despite the obstacles.  Tomorrow I start up again.  The training times will increase, I'm going to look for some bike lessons and I'll be purchasing a bigger bottle of ibprohen.

So that is how my workouts went this week.  What types of exercise did you complete this week?
